What we assess

Specifications and materials — panel gauge, foam density, filter turnover rate, ingredient panels, AAFCO statements, cage floor area against the published minimum for the species.

Fit and sizing, because sizing error is the most common reason a pet product fails its owner. Where a manufacturer's size guide is optimistic, we say so.

Running cost, not just purchase price. A filter with expensive proprietary cartridges or a litter you will buy monthly is a different proposition from its shelf price.

Reported owner experience, clearly labelled as reported. It is useful signal for durability and for how animals actually respond, and it is not a measurement we made.

Why we do not score products

We do not score or rate products. We have not tested them, and a number out of ten would suggest a measurement we did not make. Until September 2026 our pages carried scores out of ten judged from specifications; we removed them for that reason.

We never show Amazon's customer ratings or review counts either. What each page gives you is the reasoning: what the product is built for, what to check before buying, and who it suits.

What we do not claim

We do not claim laboratory testing, veterinary review, or long-term trials. Where a manufacturer claims clinical testing or veterinary endorsement, we attribute the claim to them rather than repeating it as fact.

Nothing here is veterinary advice. For anything involving a health condition, medication or a prescription diet, your vet decides and we do not.

Health and medical statements

Any statement about a pet's health — a disease risk, a nutrient requirement, a toxic food, what a supplement does — must come from an authoritative source, and health guides list their sources at the end. The sources we rely on are veterinary and regulatory bodies such as the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center, the U.S. FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine, AAFCO, WSAVA, the Veterinary Oral Health Council, the Merck Veterinary Manual, and peer-reviewed veterinary research.

Manufacturer claims — "clinically tested", "vet recommended", "reduces shedding by 90%" — are attributed to the manufacturer and never restated as our finding. Where the evidence is mixed or weak, the page says so.

We do not diagnose, dose or replace a vet. If a page and your vet disagree, follow your vet.

FurReviews is published by DixonAppStudio LLC, Elgin, SC. Articles appear under the Dixon App Studio LLC editorial byline rather than invented individual authors, and we do not claim credentials we do not hold: we are not veterinarians.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, we want to fix it. Email support@dixonappstudio.com. Errors of fact are corrected in place and the page's updated date changes. Where a correction materially changes a recommendation, the change is noted on the page rather than made silently.
